Ah, to be in Blue Earth and in... something. Posted 20:42 Tuesday, June 9, 2009 by harold
I'm currently in Blue Earth, MN for work. We're putting in furniture for the new Faribault County Justice Center. The stupid thing is that Blue Earth is in Faribault county, but Faribault is in Blue Earth county. That caused some confusion for a pair of my coworkers who decided to drive direct instead of meeting at the shop.
At any rate, I found out both yesterday and today fairly late in the day that we'd be working 10-hour days. I would have preferred finding that out right at the start of the day instead. a 10-hour day isn't so bad unless you don't know about it until after lunch. So when I thought we had 3.5 hours left I was told we had 5.5 hours left. It's just a bit disheartening. It's not like I have a whole lot to do here other than go to a bar with my coworkers, it's just the principle of the thing.

Wow. Umm, yeah. Over a year now. Every now and then people ask why I don't post on LiveJournal. This is why. I don't post anywhere. Besides, I had a crappy experience with LiveJournal when it first came out, and I haven't gotten over that yet. I figure the people that are important to me know how to get in touch with me and I don't feel the need to start posting somewhere just to have to lock all of my posts to my friends anyway.
If anybody wants to hire me to do something full-time on a permanent basis, let me know. I'll probably be all over it.

Arg Posted 17:46 Tuesday, February 19, 2008 by harold
I picked up my car last Thursday. It appears most everything is done on it, but there's a piece missing from the intake before the airbox. I need to remember to call the shop and ask for that.
When I was in my last accident (10/30/06). State Farm (the other person's insurance) paid me about $30 for every day I was without a car since they didn't have a rental for me. With this accident, the other person's insurance provider is Progressive. It took them a week and a half to determine that their driver was at fault and get my car into the shop and get me a rental car. They are telling me they won't pay anything I didn't pay out of pocket in the time between the accident and when I got the rental. I'm not happy. I got this information in a voicemail, but only after having left the adjuster 3 messages that were unreturned. I left another message for her today and I'll have to take time out of my day tomorrow to talk to her. I am really not impressed with Progressive. They seem to be telling me that my inconvenience and time is only worth anything after they get their paperwork done. Anything before that doesn't matter at all.

Update on the car situation Posted 13:53 Sunday, February 3, 2008 by harold
The other driver apparently wasn't talking to the adjuster, so when she got a copy of the police report, she just went off that. They got me a rental car and towed my car to Hamline Auto Body on Friday. They'll be buying parts to fix it this week. I'm really hoping I can get it back on Friday. Sooner would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

I do not like people Posted 18:35 Monday, January 21, 2008 by harold
I was on my way home from work today when somebody pulled out in front of me on Lake street. Ostensibly, they did it to avoid hitting another car, but it appears they also hit that car. I didn't have anywhere near enough room to stop, so I hit them and was forced up onto the center divider (this was at Lake and Drew just East of St Louis Park). My right front fender is creased, either the tie rod or the control arm on that side is bent (or both), the right wheel well liner is broken (and that's what locates the bumper cover) and there's a chunk out of my left front wheel. I was able to limp it home. I would have had it towed, but it took an hour for the cops to get there and I didn't feel like waiting another hour for a tow truck.
I already notified our insurance agent and have a shop I'll be taking it to, but I need to call the other guy's insurance company to make them cover it 100%. There's no way I feel like paying a $500 deductible for something that wasn't at all my fault.
On the plus side, it appears our agent is pretty helpful.
